Got a Backflow Notice?
Don’t turn it into another project.
Upload the notice and give us the property address. We’ll confirm the applicable requirements, coordinate access, perform the testing, address repairs if needed, and complete the required reporting process.
1. Send the Notice
Upload the notice or provide the property address and due date.
2. We Confirm the Requirements
We identify the assembly, water authority, deadline, and applicable reporting process.
3. We Test It
A qualified tester performs the required field test and documents the results.
4. We Close It Out
If the assembly passes, we complete the applicable reporting. If it fails, we explain the repair recommendation, obtain authorization, repair it where practical, retest it, and complete the process.
No notice? No problem. Send us the property address and we’ll help determine the next step.
Start to Finish
From Annual Test to Final Report.
Backflow compliance shouldn’t require multiple vendors or repeated follow-up. Pacific Standard Plumbing can handle the process from testing through repair and closeout.
Test
Annual field testing of commercial backflow prevention assemblies.
Report
Test documentation completed through the applicable water-authority reporting process.
Repair
Diagnosis and repair or rebuilding of failed assemblies where practical.
Retest
Testing after repairs to verify the assembly meets the applicable requirements.
Replace
Replacement or installation when an assembly cannot reasonably be repaired or a new assembly is required.
Manage
Coordinated testing and documentation for multiple assemblies, buildings, and managed properties.
Failed Test?
Failure Doesn’t Automatically Mean Replacement.
Backflow assemblies contain working components that wear, foul, and deteriorate over time. When an assembly fails, the first question should be what failed—not how quickly the entire device can be replaced.
Diagnose
Identify the portion of the assembly that did not meet the required test criteria.
Explain
Tell your team what failed, what we recommend, and what the repair will cost before additional work proceeds.
Repair
Repair or rebuild the assembly where practical.
Retest & Report
Retest the assembly after repair and complete the applicable documentation once it passes.
One call from failed test through final report.
Built for Property Management
One Assembly or an Entire Portfolio.
Managing one annual test is straightforward.
Managing multiple properties, assemblies, deadlines, water authorities, access requirements, repair approvals, and compliance records is not.
Pacific Standard Plumbing can coordinate backflow service as an ongoing commercial workflow instead of a series of disconnected appointments.
Multi-Property Scheduling
Coordinate testing across buildings, communities, and managed properties where practical.
Device Records
Keep property, assembly, testing, repair, and due-date information organized.
Consolidated Documentation
Give your property-management team a clearer record of completed testing and repairs.
Local Experience
Backflow Requirements Don’t Stop at the Test.
California’s cross-connection-control framework, overseen by the State Water Resources Control Board, requires qualifying backflow prevention assemblies to be tested on a recurring basis by appropriately certified testers, while local water systems administer their own notices, tester requirements, deadlines, and reporting processes. California’s current Cross-Connection Control Policy Handbook was updated in April 2026.
The City of San Diego requires backflow devices in its jurisdiction to be tested annually and maintains its own approved tester process.
That’s why we start with the property address and your notice—not assumptions.
Pacific Standard Plumbing is currently listed on the City of San Diego’s published Approved Tester’s List.
Protect the Water Supply. Protect the Property.
Why Backflow Testing Matters.
A backflow prevention assembly helps prevent water from reversing direction and introducing non-potable or contaminated water into the drinking-water system when pressure conditions change.
For the property team, the compliance process should be straightforward:
- Test it.
- Fix it if necessary.
- Report the results.
- Keep the property current.
Backflow FAQ
Commercial Backflow Testing & Repair FAQs
How often does a backflow assembly need to be tested?
Applicable assemblies are generally subject to at least annual field testing under California’s cross-connection-control framework, and local water systems may impose additional requirements depending on the property or hazard. The City of San Diego requires backflow devices in its jurisdiction to be tested annually.
What happens if my backflow assembly fails?
We’ll identify what failed and explain the recommended repair before additional work proceeds. Where practical, we can repair or rebuild the assembly, retest it, and complete the applicable reporting after it passes.
Does a failed test mean I need a new backflow preventer?
Not necessarily. Many failed assemblies can be repaired or rebuilt. Replacement may be appropriate when the assembly is damaged, obsolete, improperly installed, parts are unavailable, or repair no longer makes economic sense.
Do you submit the test results?
We handle the applicable test documentation and reporting process in the jurisdictions where we’re authorized to perform the service.
Can you test multiple devices at the same property?
Yes. We can coordinate multiple assemblies and work with your team on scheduling, access, documentation, and repair authorization.
Can you handle multiple properties?
Yes. PSP works with property managers, HOAs, facility teams, and commercial operators and can coordinate backflow service across multiple managed properties.
What should I send you when I receive a notice?
Send the notice itself if possible, along with the property address and the best contact for access. The notice often provides the information needed to identify the assembly, water authority, and due date.
